A planimeter is a mechanical instrument used to compute the area of a planar region (irregular shapes) This makes this instrument a sort of a calculator. I guess this is an early 20th c. example made in Germany as indicated by the label inside the box.   It has no maker's mark, only the number 16040 punched in the arm near the calculator wheels.  It looks complete and seems to be in very good condition.  sold
