Stanley 101 block plane offered 1877 - 1962 value A$ 45 3 1/2" long with a 1" cutter. same as No 100 without the tail. A lot of these planes come without markings of any kind. If you have a choice go for the ones that have a marked cutter.

Stanley 101 1/2 bullnose block plane offered 1880- 1929 value A$ 750 + 3 1/2" long with a 1" cutter. same as No 101 with bullnose front and finger rest. Make sure it has the finger rest, some look-alike planes are simply cut down versions of the 101. Part of the finger rest protrudes from the plane body and I have seen planes with this part filed off. Surgery of this kind considerably reduces the value. I had to go back a few years to find my last sales record of the rare 101 1/2 (Auction 3, lot 450 sold for A$ 750) Apparently this plane was never listed in the Stanley catalogues and only featured in some store hardware catalogues, mainly in England. It must have made it down under, too. I found two or three in tool chests and I know of several Aussie collectors who picked one up for a song at flea markets and swap meets. . |
